WHM 11.23.0 cPanel 11.23.3-R25133

Version Information
Your Fantastico is up-to-date. Your current version / latest version is De Luxe 2.10.4 r16.

When users log into cPanel / Fantastico and click an app, they're given message:

"This application is currently not available. Please contact your host."

Please don't tell me that the solution is to enable register_globals - that is a widely known security risk. Is Fantastico going to get fixed to work with register_globals off, or not??

Right now it's doing battle with the server each day, and should never even be touching my php.ini settings.

Hello,

Did you know that cPanel has been running the backend PHP with register_globals on for years now?

I'll say what cPanel Inc. said about the matter for a long time:

The risks from enabling register_globals for cPanel use is negligible and not the same as enabling it for public use.

We were simply following cPanel Inc.'s own lead on this point.

We are diligently working on a new version of Fantastico that works just as well with register_globals off on the backend, but it does take time to finish the code and unfortunately cPanel Inc. has never been good at disclosing future directions for its products to third party application developers, so sadly we did not have it ready when cPanel Inc. decided to switch their preferred setting.

We'll have a version out soon, but until then you will need to either disable Fantastico or enable register_globals on the backend.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Regards,

Aric

No sir, I did not. I have nobody to blame but myself for not being clear on the difference between my thirdparty folder php.ini and the lib and/or zend folder php.ini. Thank you for your polite response to my obviously anxious and irritated post, and for putting that in perspective for me / encouraging me to dig through the files a bit.

I can see now from your post that your team is probably just as frustrated as I am and I humbly apologize for coming across somewhat harsh.

What I do know, after many years as a paying user of cPanel and Fantastico, is that suddenly in the past week I have to go into WHM > Plugins > Fantastico and use the Detect/Fix common problems link every day in order for my users to have proper access to their Fantastico scripts interface and I'm getting support calls / tickets because of it. Perhaps that is no excuse for me to have come here to express my frustration with the issue, but maybe can at least explain it. I would have been a lot less reactive if I wasn't paying for both applications (cPanel and Fantastico) and if there was a clear / cooperative explanation from both companies as to why the sudden problem is there. Hopefully today will not be another repeat of the cycle, and hopefully in the future cPanel and Fantastico will find a way to maintain a better co-existance and correspondence on such issues.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

This issue is ongoing.  cPanel hasn't been running with register globals on for some time now (it defaults to off every update)

Logs for your work-around show:
Can't open /var/cpanel/3rdparty/etc/php.ini: No such file or directory.

Every upcp update causes fantastico to fail (turns register globals back off), first I have to turn it back on, and then I have to run your 'find and fix problems' to make it work.

When can we expect a complete and proper fix instead of a bandaid?

Go to WHM, Tweak Settings, Make sure ioncube loader is checked and (for now) register_globals is checked. Save changes.

I will repeat: Register globals is being turned off every cpanel update.

Your suggestion is the bandaid, and it is just not working.  When can we expect a proper fix?

Seconded. This issue has existed now since at least the end of April. Regardless of what cPanel have been doing in the past, present or future, register_globals have been Off by default in PHP since 2002!!! Please resolve this in *your* software asap.

I agree. Fantastico needs to be fixed, asap.

We're getting tired of having to "tweak" our cpanel servers every day (we have a lot of them!) just to fix this fantastico problem.

There is no excuse for any modern PHP software to require register_globals ON, and this issue should have been addressed a long time ago by Fantastico.  The writing was on the wall...

Anyway.. if the problem continues much longer, we'll give serious consideration to switching to an alternative installer software.

That fix worked fine, In every single case we looked at where people told us it wasn't working, we found they did not set up Tweak Settings as requested.

In any case, please update to the latest Fantastico. It does not require register_globals to be on (as we promised).
